With over 20 years experience as both a food publisher and author at Murdoch Books, Jane Lawson has been responsible for the acquisition and publication of many of Australia’s finest and most successful cookbooks such as Quay by Peter Gilmore, Origin by Ben Shewry, Songs of Sapa by Luke Nguyen, Real Food Companion by Mathew Evans, Movida Cocina and Movida Rustica by Frank Camorra and Richard Cornish, Zumbo by Adriano Zumbo and Bourke Street Bakery by Paul Allum and David McGuinness.
An ex chef, Jane has authored around 10 popular titles such as Snowflakes and Schnapps, Grub – Favourite Food Memories, Cocina Nueva, Yoshoku, Zenbu Zen – finding food, culture and balance in Kyoto, Milkbar Memories -the cookbook of your childhood dreams and most recently the Tokyo Style Guide.
She now works predominantly as a food and travel writer and has written for publications such as Escape Travel, SBS Food Online, Luxury Travel Magazine, The Australian, Kitchen at 9MSN and Qantas Travel Insider Magazine. She also consults to publishing houses and authors and hosts ‘Book Publishing in a Nutshell’ workshops for aspiring authors.
Jane’s calls Kyoto her second home and hosts regular luxury cuisine and culture tours through her business Zenbu Tours. Jane regularly presents, speaks and advises about all things Japanese for food and travel media and the public both in Australia and internationally.
She’s recently opened an online store featuring a fluid collection of beautiful one off Japanese homewares – Zenbu Home.
