Living in the inner west next to the airport with a modest backyard, a full time job, a partner, two kids, two cats and the 12:30 A380 to Singapore Sam dreamed of a more sustainable, self reliant (and quieter life). Tempe farm was started (in the modest backyard) as a prototype of what could be. Growing a range of foods – soy beans, potatoes, spinach, mushrooms and running four quail for their eggs Sam soon discovered a few hard lessons about supply (four beans do not a meal make) and demand (no body likes mushrooms).
Not to be deterred in 2016 Sam and her partner Elisabeth moved to the Southern Highlands to scale things up. Brillig Farm was the next step and the “Rather Splendid Salad Mix” made its debut at the Moss Vale farmers market. Before too long they were growing for a handful of local restaurants and running a home delivery service for their salad and microgreens.
Brillig Farm now produces a range of unusual and exceptional produce chosen for taste, nutrition and beauty.
